About the Author

Angela R. Newland, P.E., grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. She began her career as an engineering project manager for the City of Columbus, eventually becoming Vice President of Planning and Engineering for the Columbus Airport Authority and later for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. Following her retirement, she relocated to southwest Florida, where she experienced the devastation of Hurricane Irma firsthand.

Her award-winning memoir, The River House, chronicles her journey of resilience during the 27-month reconstruction of her storm-damaged home. Newland now resides in central Ohio with her husband and two cats, sharing her story to help others prepare for and recover from the unexpected challenges of natural disasters.
