Elevated Remodeling (800-672-8519) has published a new guide to help Delaware homeowners find financial assistance for energy-efficient home improvements, including window replacements.

-- The newly released guide explains how Delaware residents can maximize savings through federal energy tax credits and state-sponsored rebates - if they meet the eligibility requirements. The guide particularly focuses on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which helps homeowners save on energy-efficient home upgrades, and the state's Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which offers financial support to low-income homeowners for weather-resistant home improvements, including window repairs and replacements.

In its report, Elevated Remodeling points out signs that windows need replacing, such as drafts, visible damage, condensation, noise, and difficulty opening or closing. High energy bills, in particular, may also be a sign that windows are not effectively insulating a home, forcing the property's HVAC system to work harder.
Windows that provide insufficient insulation can be replaced through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the report explains. The Act covers windows that meet the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, with a U-factor of 0.20 or lower for superior thermal insulation. Eligible homeowners can claim a tax credit of 30% of the total replacement cost, up to $600 annually. To qualify, recipients must keep documentation verifying the windows’ compliance with ENERGY STAR standards.
Alternatively, low-income residents can take advantage of Delaware’s WAP to make sure their homes can better withstand weather conditions. Eligibility depends on income guidelines, with priority given according to applicants' needs, age, and funding availability. A qualified contractor will conduct a home energy audit to identify necessary improvements and coordinate the upgrades.
Elevated Remodeling's report also covers programs like Energize Delaware, Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) rebates, and other local initiatives. Energize Delaware, in particular, offers rebates for energy-efficient upgrades through its "Home Performance with ENERGY STAR" program, and the DEMEC provides rebates for ENERGY STAR-certified HVAC and window air conditioning systems to customers of DEMEC member utilities.
